Dead Letter No. 9

63 Grand Street, New York

Created by immersive theater veterans (including alumni of Sleep No More) and top NYC restaurateurs, Dead Letter No. 9 is a wildly unique hybrid venue—part cocktail lounge, part conversation parlor, and part underground nightclub. Themed as a decommissioned postal facility for undeliverable mail, the space is built to spark genuine human connection.Instead of a standard bar setup, you can wander through highly detailed, whimsical rooms—like a Smoky Mountain porch, a nostalgic treehouse, or a Joshua Tree camper under artificial stars. Each room uses "lost letters" as prompts to get you talking deeply with both friends and strangers. When you are ready to turn up the energy, the hidden back room, known as "Cargo," acts as a dedicated dance club pumping out top-tier house, disco, and techno from rotating DJs. Pair this unpredictable, theatrical vibe with inventive craft cocktails and elevated bites (like fried chicken sliders and smoked trout dip), and you get one of the most engaging and refreshing nights out in Brooklyn.
